COURSE DISCRIPTION
Foundations of Technology
increases student’s capability by using their unique skills to innovate,
improvise, and invent. Students develop
an understanding of engineering design, transforming ideas into products or
systems. They select and use
manufacturing, construction and energy and power technologies in order to
understand quality goods, impact of structures and the importance of energy
resources. Students also gain insights
into the use of communication technologies, telemedicine and other medical
technologies. The course concludes with
the synthesizing of major ideas through an understanding of the impacts the use
of technology has on society and the environment.
OBJECTIVES:
Students
will learn the safety practices that are to be used and followed when working
in a shop.
Student
will learn how to safely end effectively use equipment.
Students
will learn the concepts about design and the processes used to construct
various project based assignments.
Student
will learn the design process, drawing, material estimating, and construction
aspects of the selected project.
Students
will learn measuring and size aspects and techniques in coloration to uses of
projects and equipment.
GRADES:
Grades
will be comprised of the following
1)
Project Grading
Rubric
2)
Daily work in the
lab 10 pts per day
3)
Shop cleanup
4)
Journal of
project progress, drawing, instructions, and material list 20 pts per. Journals
require five sentences an entry.
RULES
1)
All rules in the
Milnor Park Handbook will be followed
2)
Horseplay in the
shop will not be tolerated
3)
Respect others
and their property
4)
Computers, tools,
and equipment are not to be used without permission
5) Safety glasses are to be worn by all students when
working is going on in shop areas even if they are not the one doing the work.
