2)      QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS: (4 WEEKS)

TRANSFORMATIONS, STANDARD FORM, SOLVING BY FACTORING, SOLVE BY GRAPHING, COMPLETING THE SQUARE, COMPLEX NUMBERS, QUADRATIC FORMULA

3)      POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS: (4 WEEKS)

OPERATIONS WITH POLYNOMIALS, FACTORING POLYNOMIALS, FIND REAL ROOTS OF POLYNOMIALS, THE FUNDAMENTAL THEOREM OF ALGEBRA, GRAPHING POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS, TRANSFORMATIONS OF POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS, CURVE FITTING FOR POLYNOMIAL MODELS

4)      EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC FUNCTIONS: (4 WEEKS)

EXPONENTIAL GROWTH AND DECAY, INVERSES OF FUNCTIONS AND RELATIONS, LOGARITHMIC FUNCTIONS, SOLVING EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC EQUATIONS, THE NATURAL BASE “E”, TRANSFORMATIONS OF EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC FUNCTIONS, AND CURVE FITTING FOR EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARITHMIC MODELS

5)      RATIONAL AND RADICAL FUNCTIONS: (3 WEEKS)

OPERATIONS WITH RATIONAL AND RADICAL FUNCTIONS, SOLVING RATIONAL AND RADICAL EQUATIONS AND INEQUALITIES, SOLVING EQUATIONS BY GRAPHING

6)      PROPERTIES AND ATTRIBUTES OF FUNCTIONS: (3 WEEKS)

MULTIPLE REPRESENTATIONS OF FUNCTIONS, COMPARING FUNCTIONS, PIECEWISE-DEFINED FUNCTIONS, TRANSFORMATIONS, OPERATIONS AND INVERSES, MODELING REAL-WORLD DATA

CLASSROOM RULES:

1)      I WILL ATTEMPT TO TREAT YOU WITH THE UTMOST RESPECT, AND I EXPECT YOU TO TREAT ME WITH RESPECT IN RETURN.

2)      WITH YOUR HELP, WE WILL TRY TO ELIMINATE CONTROLLABLE DISTRACTIONS.

3)      NO FOOD OR DRINKS WILL BE ALLOWED. WATER IN A SEALED CONTAINER IS THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE.

4)      CHEWING GUM WILL BE ACCEPTABLE, AS LONG AS YOU FIND A TRASH RECEPTACLE FOR IT AND THE WRAPPER WHEN YOU ARE DONE. WHEN I FIND GUM WRAPPERS OR GUM IN INAPPROPRIATE PLACES, THIS PRIVILEGE WILL BE ELIMINATED.

 

I AM PLEASED THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO TAKE THIS CLASS. I HOPE THAT YOU ARE PREPARED TO WORK. I CAN’T MAKE THE MATERIAL EASY FOR YOU, BUT I WILL TRY EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF TO HELP YOU. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO MAKE THE EFFORT, I BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL. SOME MAY NOT COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND EVERY SINGLE THING WE DO, BUT ALL SHOULD SEE IMPROVEMENT IN THEIR UNDERSTANDING. FOR THE MOST PART, MATH IS A SEQUENTIAL SUBJECT, SO MY GOAL IS TO KEEP EVERYONE MOVING DOWN THE PATH, NO MATTER WHERE YOU STARTED!
